A Little Bit About The Roving Chef
Tanis Hargrave founded The Roving Chef Catering Company in 2003 after spending most of her career working in
marketing. She spent several years with large corporations but a lot more time creating and successfully
running her own companies. She previously had businesses that specialized in floor graphics advertising and in-store food
sampling
Cooking has fascinated Tanis since she was a child.
Before she was ten she was creating her own recipes. As a teenager
she awed friends with her exotic dishes. Friends and family always raved about her meals.
She started to cook for larger functions and not only enjoyed it, but got tremendous satisfaction
from the happy smiles and many compliments. To Tanis, cooking
is a passion and something that inspires creativity.
In 2002, Tanis experienced a total transformation in her life. Her 16-year-old son Dan who had
been born with cystic fibrosis was deathly ill. His only chance at survival was a double
lung transplant. During this period, nothing mattered except helping Dan. Miraculously, compatible
lungs were found for him and and the risky transplant operation was successful. It was an incredibly
stressful period for Tanis and her family and Tanis realized that she had to refocus her life.
She still needed to work but also had to stay close to Dan help ensure his full recovery. She decided to
turn her passion for cooking into a new business and she began preparing meals in her home for people who
were too busy or too tired or simply not able to prepare their own. Tanis spent a lot of
time researching and developing recipes that are interesting and delicious.
The Roving Chef was born.
With time and effort, The Roving Chef grew in popularity and scope. Tanis now has a new home, the Tuscany Event Centre in the heart of Aurora, hosting weddings, family celebrations for all occasions, corporate meetings and events. With the rapid growth of the company, Tanis has created a terrific team of people to help her with all the work, but she continues to personally ensure that everything she produces is up to her standards of quality and passion.
